Our New Family Member

This is Scooter, our new addition! We took him in because his mom (my Aunt's mother-in-law) needs to live in a Long Term Care Facility. Scooter is 12 years old and has arthritis in his hips. He doesn't let that slow him down though! He is a very sweet laid back dog. Deklan loves having another puppy in the house and so do I! Wally and Wednesday are adjusting. Wednesday, the cat, likes to walk over to Scooter, hiss at him, and walk away. Wally likes to show Scooter who is boss. They will all learn to love eachother I'm sure!

Deklan's Valentine's Day gift was this toy puppy. His ears flap and he says different phrases! Wally looks confused!
We got our first package from Daddy! Deklan liked the box better than his Teddy Bear!
This boy is a fish out of water! He absolutely LOVES to swim! Gramps is too excited for words!!!

Thankful for Technology

Last night Andrew and I were able to Skype for the first time. It was really nice to see him and talk to him. It made me realize how far technology has come and how lucky we are to be able to do things like Skype and even e-mail. I take these things for granted because I barely remember what we did before them.

Andrew is doing well and he looks good. I am such a visual person, it really helps to physically see how he is doing. It was funny, Wally heard Andrew's voice and started running around looking for him! Deklan smiled when he heard his Daddy. I have been worried that Deklan won't remember Andrew when he gets home. After last night, I'm not worried anymore!

Andrew and I plan to Skype once a week. I am lucky to have something to look forward to. I think it is important we remember that even in the days of live video streams, there are military men and women who don't have technology available to them and have to wait days and weeks for the oportunity to make a phone call or write an email.

An Unexpected Trip

Deklan became dehydrated after a few days of throwing up so his pediatrician recommended a visit to the ER. What an experience! I learn everyday that motherhood is unpredictable, wonderful, and terrifying all at once. Watching Deklan get poked with needles made me wish that my arm was the one being stuck. I wanted so badly to take his pain away. A quick glance at my own mother made me realize, that feeling, never goes away. As I was wanting to take the pain away from my child, my mom was wanting the same thing. That is the wonderful part of being a mom.

It wasn't easy being there without Andrew. However, with support from family, friends, and the strength our Heavenly Father provides, we got through it.

Deklan is doing better now. The medication they gave him for nausea has helped him keep his formula down which is helping him regain strength and energy.

The Adventure Begins....

Deklan and I dropped Andrew off at the Colorado Springs Airport today. We spent the week with him there and made it back home today. Andrew will be in Kuait for 4 months. It still doesn't seem like reality yet but I imagine it will pretty soon! I am emotionally exhausted but I'm also feeling good about our situation. I have a peace about it and I know that comes from our Heavenly Father. I will definitly be relying heavily on Him for the next few months for strength and guidance!

On a happier note, I am so excited to announce that I have a new position at the nursing facility I work at! I was working 2pm-10pm which I was dreading because it is so hard to get a sitter for those hours! I got the phone call from the Staff Development Coordinator while we were in the springs! My new hours will be something like 10am-4pm. I don't know all the details yet. I go in on Monday for training and to talk to the Administrator about her expectations! I am so relieved! Everything seems to be working out for the best. I don't know why I worry so much!

I am lucky to have my parents and close friends in town! They will be helping me with Deklan while I am at work. Before I was a mom, I baby sat a lot! The parents would use to tell me that it was nice to know their kids were in good hands while they were away. I never truly understood that statement until now!
